Check out some of these great technology web 2.0 resources
Have you heard of Web 2.0? Most likely you know of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Wikipedia, but did you know that Web 2.0 is much more than social media? And that social media can be used for more than social media? There are thousands of Web 2.0 technologies out there that are just waiting to be explored and most of them are FREE!
Here are a couple that might be useful:
ExamTime: This is a great site for utilizing flashcards, creating online quizzes, slideshow presentations, creating and sharing mind maps (concept maps), and setting up a study timeline and study aids. I particularly like the Mind Maps as it allows students to utilize an online tool to brainstorm or display their knowledge on a subject while embedding images, manipulating the style, and collaborating online within groups.
GeoGuesser: This website provides thousands of maps and games for exploration. This might be a great resource for geography or social studies as it allows students to explore all around the world with real-time Google Map images in conjunction with global maps. A great site to show just how big our world really is!
Globaleria: This site offers STEM based games designed by students and teachers. It also offers courses, lessons, and instructions for having students design their own curriculum and standards based games. If you are feeling particularly “techy” this would be a good site to explore and share with students.
Piktochart: This is a great free resource for creating infographics. There are templates available to choose from or the "start from scratch" option. Students can upload their own images, Google images, or choose from Piktochart's icon gallery and images. The interface is simple, attractive, and user friendly. Students can create attractive and engaging infographics with this free tool.
ThinkLink: This resource allows students to create links to videos, articles, and additional images to their own or downloaded images in order to make an interactive image come to life.
Zaption: This resource is one of my favorite; it allows you to turn online videos into interactive tools. Upload any video and imbed facts, articles, quiz questions, surveys, and more into the video to appear as it is viewed. You can also monitor views, responses, and analytics as the site will house this information for you so that you can monitor your students' usage and interaction with the content.
PowToon: This site allows students to create mini-animated videos and presentations using “avatars,” icons, images, voiceovers, and more. A great resource for allowing students to get creative with technology while showcasing what they know.
Kizoa: This resource is a fun alternative to PowerPoint as it allows students to create presentations in more of a movie format while utilizing slide options and interfaces with which they may be more familiar. This resource is very customizable; a great option for a little challenge or a little more advanced creators.
Glogster Edu: Another alternative to PowerPoint that allows students to create interactive posters. This is a pretty straightforward resource once you get the hang of it.
Dustbin: This online tool from classtools.net is geared toward ELL as it allows for the students to become familiar with words, phrases, categories, etc. with which they are need help. It allows for instructors or students to create their own games using a simple interface and easy-to-use instruction for participating. This is a simple website/game that could be useful for our ELL students.
Infogr.am: This is a great tool for creating interactive posters, infographics, quotes, and more. It allows for videos, music, images, and links to be imbedded into the information presented. This tool hosts a pretty simple interface, but does require a little navigation at first.
Storybird: This resource is great for creating, sharing, and following book, stories, or blogs. It allows for teachers to host entire classes on their account as well as review and grade students' work. This would be a great tool for students to present their work in a creative format or even to access other previously created resources for review.
